How to Unfollow Someone on LinkedIn Without Removing the Connection

Stop seeing a person’s posts without unnecessarily ending a useful professional relationship.

Open the person’s LinkedIn profile, find the Following control and choose Unfollow. This normally stops their posts from appearing in your feed while keeping your connection intact.

Unfollow from a profile

LinkedIn may change the exact position or label of these controls.

  1. Open the person’s LinkedIn profile.
  2. Locate Following, sometimes inside the More menu.
  3. Select Unfollow.
  4. Confirm that the control changes back to Follow.

Unfollow directly from the feed

When an unwanted post appears, open its three-dot menu. If LinkedIn offers an unfollow option, you can stop following the author without visiting their profile.

Unfollow, feedback and remove are different

Unfollow changes what you see. Remove connection ends the connection. A post-level option such as Not interested addresses a recommendation and may not unfollow the author.

Will they be notified?

LinkedIn does not normally notify a member when you unfollow them. They remain connected unless you separately remove the connection. Because platform behavior can change, avoid treating this as a permanent guarantee.

When you need to review many people

For a large list, do not simply select everyone. Define the categories you want to preserve, review a sample and only then apply decisions more broadly.

Frequently asked questions

Can someone still message me after I unfollow them?

If you remain connected and no other restriction applies, unfollowing alone does not normally remove messaging access.

Can I follow the person again later?

Yes. Visit the profile and choose Follow again.

Can the person see that I unfollowed them?

LinkedIn does not normally send an unfollow notification, although they may notice indirectly.
